Kingfisher Lodge, which has been restored, consists of a charming series of tastefully decorated guest suites. The rooms and living areas boast an extraordinary collection of antiques.

The stained glass door from the original Te Water family home (now an antique shop) provides a gracious link between the main dining room and drawing room with its yellowwood ceilings.

The opulently appointed lounge is one of five living areas which include the sun porch, drawing room, enclosed patio with bar and the lapa area near the swimming pool.

Set in beautifully maintained, extensive gardens, against a backdrop of giant old Pepper trees, there are six luxury guest suites, each tastefully decorated in a distinctive style with antiques, brass beds woolen carpets and Persian rugs.

Graaff-Reinet, established in 1786, and the surrounding farmland epitomizes the Karoo. The town has retained much of its architectural heritage and it is no wonder that it is known as the Gem of the Karoo.

Steeped in history, with a rich palaeontology underlying the area and boasting some of the most magnificent scenery in the Karoo, Graaff-Reinet is a must visit destination.

Rooms

All rooms are en suite, with a private entrance and secure parking. Ceiling fans and electric blankets ensure the comfort of guests in all weather conditions. Coffee and tea facilities are provided in each suite.

There is remote-controlled television in selected rooms.

The air-conditioned Roman suite with its four-poster bed and wonderful view of the front garden is very popular with honeymooners. The original bath from 'Te Water House' has been restored and installed in the porcelain tiled bathroom of this suite.

A sixth room (Double Room 6) has been added. It consists of two single beds, placed together, with bath en suite.

Activities

Many national monuments and historic buildings can be found in and around Graaff-Reinet - the third oldest town in South Africa.

The Valley of Desolation provides tremendous fascination and beauty with its balancing dolomite columns.

Visit nearby Nieu-Bethesda where you can see the renowned and thought-provoking Owl House. This old world hamlet is also one of the artist centres of South Africa.

Graaff-Reinet is one of the few towns in the world to be surrounded by a game reserve where game viewing can be done.
